Week Ten

  • Outgrew her swaddle.  For three mornings in a row I looked in her bassinet and found both her little arms out of her swaddle, so the next night we tried just the sleep sack with free arms and she did great!  We keep her in a sleep sack at night so that she stays warm.
  • Outgrew her bassinet and started to sleep in her crib in her room!  Once we took her out of the swaddle she would wave her arms around when she got up and would hit the sides of the bassinet.  Then one night she pushed herself all the way to the back of the bassinet and wedged her head against the side.  She almost stretched from front to back, so we moved to the big girl crib!  She did just as well in the crib sleeping the same amount of time at night.  I am so thankful that it isn't too far across the house!
  • Had a play day at Nina's house with Jonah and Zoe.  Jonah really enjoyed watching Maddie and calling her name!
  • Went to storytime at the library.  The library is less than a mile from our house and I had never been there until I took Maddie to storytime.  She is still a little too young for it, so I am looking forward to taking her again this summer when she's a little older.
  • Went to daycare and met her teachers.  I spent about an hour talking to the teachers and telling them all about Maddie and what she does everyday.  The main teacher seemed very nice and genuine, so hopefully it will work out to be a good fit for all of us.
  • Went to church for the first time.  Maddie and I joined Catherine and Jacob at the First United Methodist Church of Oviedo on Sunday.  We sat in the back just in case we needed to move the kiddos to the wiggle room, but both of them did a great job!
  • Took a drive across town to visit with my old secretary and principal.  They had sent gifts and kept asking to meet her, so we traveled out for a visit.  They both loved her and were so thankful we came out.
  • Had some fun in the sun with little Jacob next door.
  • Has started to establish her first daytime nap!  She seems to take a longer nap (hour to an hour and a half).  I try to put her down between 9 and 10am just like the book says and it's working so far.  She still likes to fight the crib for naps, but we're working on it.
  • Pushed back her bedtime even earlier.  We now start bedtime sometime around 6-6:15pm and she is usually asleep by 6:45pm.
  • Continues to be a great nighttime sleeper.  She has a pretty consistent 8 hour stretch (until about 2:30am).  Every once in a while she's get up at 12:30 or 1am, but that is still 6 hours and at her age that considered sleeping through the night!
  • Loves to be free during playtime.  You can hold her if she's tired, but if she's awake she wants to be down on the floor either on her tummy or on her back.  She LOVES her activity gym!
  • Helped mommy get ready to go back to work.  I spent 2 hours on Saturday organizing my closet and going through all of my clothes.  Maddie played on her gym in the closet (we have a really big closet) while I tried on every.single.thing in there!  I put together outfits for work and lined them up by week, so I don't have to think in the mornings.  I'm going to iron a weeks worth of clothes every Sunday in preparation for the work week...yes, I know I'm type A.  I came up with 5 full weeks worth of work shirts and 2.5 weeks worth of pants.  Who knew I had so many clothes?!?!  I won't hitting the stores for a very long time!...this will make Shawn a very happy man!
  • While trying on all my clothes I have discovered that only a few shirts/pants don't fit and most all of my pants can be zippered and hooked with a hair tie...they are super close to buttoning, though!  I only ever bought 2 pairs of maternity dress pants, so I wore the same 2 pairs of pants over and over again.  I'll actually feel good going to work now!
  • In my other preparation for going back to work I have decided to cook meals to last us from now until Spring Break (2 weeks after I go back).  With Maddie's new bedtime we won't be home very long before she has to go to bed everyday, which doesn't leave much time for dinner prep.  I do however have time to heat the oven and throw something in, so that's our plan!  While Maddie takes her morning nap I have been cooking double batches of everything and freezing it.  By Sunday the 11th our freezer should have over 10 meals and 200 ounces of frozen breastmilk (I've been busy these last 2 months)!!  I might have to convince Shawn to buy a freezer for the garage!

Moving her head higher and higher!

Tummy Time!

Wishing her Aunt Kara a very Happy Birthday!
