Week Eighteen

  • Had her 4 month appointment at the pediatrician.  Everything is great and she is sleeping and eating well according to them.  We are going to try to hold off on solids until she is six months old.  The American Association of Pediatrics is now saying that breastfed babies get all they need from their milk and don't need anything extra until 6 months, so that is our plan!
  • Is eating a ton!  I'm not sure where she puts it all because she eats anywhere from 30-35 ounces of milk a day.  21-28 ounces come from a bottle, so I am trying to keep up and produce that much when I'm at work. (Milk producing is now my third full time job!)
  • Screams when you take away her bottle.  We have always tried to burp her during feedings, but now she won't have any of that.  She prefers to chug her 7 ounce bottle without interruption!
  • Went through a little growth spurt.  She was waking up at 12am and 5am pretty much all week and wanted to be fed.  Luckily after a few days she went back to between 4:30am and 5:30am.
  • Goes back to sleep very well.  She always sleeps until between 7am and 8am no matter when we put her back down after a feeding.  We have really been lucky to have such an easy sleeper.
  • LOVES tummy time!  Tummy time is all the time...she does it in the crib, on the floor, on the changing table, and everywhere else.  She loves to look around at everything!
  • Holds her head up very well.  She has the occasional bobble head moment, but for the most part it's steady.
  • Loves to talk to everyone!
  • Still drooling...
  • Loves the morning song.  Every morning when we go wake her up, I sing the morning song (Shawn's version isn't quite as good).  She gives us the biggest smile and it makes everything in the world seem okay.  If you ever need to feel good in the morning, come to our house and wake up our daughter!
    • The morning song (to the tune of Happy Birthday)
      • Good Morning to you
      • Good Morning to you
      • Good Morning Miss Madelyn
      • Good Morning to you
      • The suns out today
      • The suns out today
      • The sun came out to play with you
      • It's gonna be a great day
    • Repeat the first verse -- add a verse in spanish -- I just keep going until we are done changing her clothes.  She smiles.... I sing!!
  • Loves daddy's hand washing song.
    • Hand washing song (to the tune of Brother John)
      • Up and down, Up and down
      • In between, In between
      • Rub them all together, Rub them all together
      • Squeaky Clean, Squeaky Clean
    • It's too cute to listen to Shawn sing this!
